A special benefit evening to save Revolution Books
NGŨGĨ WA THIONG'O
In a rare New York City appearance, the world-renowned author from Kenya will read and talk about his new book Dreams in a Time of War: A Childhood Memoir
Ngũgĩ Wa Thiong'o's remarkable novels and plays paint a harsh and unsparing picture of life in neo-colonial Kenya. He has been imprisoned more than once in Kenya for his books, and for his outspoken resistance, including his theoretical work on post-colonial literature. The first of his novels composed in Gikuyu, his mother tongue, Devil on the Cross, was written in prison on toilet paper in the late 1970s.
Ngũgĩ's books have been translated into more than 30 languages. He now lives in exile in the U.S. Formerly a professor at NYU, he is currently a Distinguished Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the University of California, Irvine.
