Way Out of the Madness
These are the heaviest times we have ever lived through. Genocide in Gaza, the growing threat of world war between nuclear powers, the escalating climate crisis...fascism on a rampage. And the rulers of the US are at each other's throats on a scale not seen since the Civil War—with the fabric of society being ripped apart and things likely coming to a head around the elections. As the revolutionary leader Bob Avakian has analyzed, this is a rare time when revolution is more possible—a revolution to put an end to this capitalist-imperialist system, the cause of these and other horrors. Two futures loom: something terrible, or something truly emancipating.
 For decades it has seemed to all too many that there is no alternative to this system. At Revolution Books, you discover and engage with the reality that a radically different and far-better world really IS possible. At the heart of Revolution Books is the new communism developed by Bob Avakian and based on decades of work, so that the next wave of revolutions could lead to the emancipation of humanity. That’s a big deal. Here we are lifting sights with a qualitatively more scientific method to revolution and the emancipation of humanity than has previously existed. A method and approach that requires the unfettered search for the truth.
To students and intellectuals who cannot abide the monstrous crimes and inequalities of capitalism, and who aspire to a society and world worthy of our humanity: Isn't it time to remove the blinders and critically engage with the pathbreaking work and leadership of Bob Avakian? To stop trafficking in anti-communism as a rationale to avoid engaging the new communism?
At a time when Trump fascism declares truth as whatever can be brutishly proclaimed, while “woke” declares truth as a narrative of identity—at Revolution Books, we struggle to understand the world based on what is objectively true. And act on that basis to profoundly change the world.
As Columbia and other institutions of “higher learning” are shutting down protest, dissent, and critical thinking that challenge the crimes and lies of empire—here we value the contention over ideas, over why things are the way they are and how they could be different. Because as Bob Avakian has argued: “Everything that is actually true is good for the proletariat, all truths can help us get to communism”—a world in which human beings can truly flourish.
And we take up the morality of the new communism, which rejects the poisonous notion that the “ends justify the means.” The means of making revolution and changing the world must flow from and serve the liberating ends.
 There is a whole other way we could be living, with a fundamentally different system. Bob Avakian's revolutionary social media dispatches @BobAvakianOfficial are a doorway to how humanity can lift the weight of this system for all humanity.
 At Revolution Books students, professionals and those most bitterly oppressed mix it up together, bringing their outrage over Gaza and other horrors of this system. We wrangle over the biggest problems confronting humanity. We open up debate about reform vs. revolution: can you really save the planet by pressuring a system based on profit, exploitation, and plunder to safeguard the environment? We wrestle with the actual revolutionary way out of the madness that has a real chance...right now.
Here the whole world comes first. With shelves of books capturing the breadth of human experience and the yearnings of humanity to be free. Appreciating the deeply-felt need for art—and culture that lifts us up, challenges and inspires us, and fosters a morality where human beings treat each other with mutual respect. To students and intellectuals from around the city who refuse to go along with injustice and agonize about the future, you are welcome and needed at Revolution Books. To contribute to forging the culture and ethos so lacking in society now: uniting broadly against injustice and atrocity, with open-minded engagement of different ideas and principled debate over programs and differences.
The stakes could not be higher. The world is hurtling towards catastrophe. And a truly liberating revolution to overthrow this system is more needed than ever...and more possible in this acute moment!
